First, the classification of ribbon
1. Wax-based ribbon (WAX RIBBON)
Usually, it contains a high percentage of wax-based materials, these materials determine the melting point of the ribbon, the melting point affects the level required for printing. General speaking, the energy level required of the wax-based ribbon is Far lower than the mixed base and resin base printing,because the melting point of the wax is much lower than the resin. And most waxes are softer than resins, the durability of printed graphics is not as good as that of mixed and resin based wax ribbons. Most wax based ribbons only have one coat.
2. Wax/tree mixed base ribbon (WAX/RESIN RIBBON)
Usually,it contains a high percentage of the resin composition raw material, which determines the high melting point of this ribbon. When printing with this ribbon, it requires a higher energy level than wax-based ribbons. Since most resins are harder than wax, the scratch resistance and chemical resistance of the graphics are also better than those of wax-based ribbons. Most Resin ribbon consist of two or more layers
3, resin-based (RESIN RIBBON) ribbon
It contains the highest proportion of resin components ,and requires higher energy levels than wax bases and mixed bases when printing. Since most resins ribbon are harder than waxes, high content of resins, it makes this ribbon extremely resistant to rub and chemical resistance.
